Hello
I am Shaldeen Campbell, a licensed clinical social worker and the founder and therapist of Maroon Harmony, LLC. I am passionate about connecting with people to support them in creating a life of harmony, balance, and pleasure.
My Story
Growing up I have always found myself in a helping role. I am the oldest among my siblings, and naturally, I have been and continue to be the confidant, problem solver, financial advisor, teacher, and caregiver for my brothers, sister, and let's face it, my parents as well. So it's no surprise to me that I am a therapist. After all, I have been in training to support others my entire life.
Early memories of being aware of mental illness involve overhearing whispers among the adults in my family regarding a cousin who was described as 'mad' for various reasons or learning that an aunt could not care for her child because she was 'mad' or 'not right in the head.' I remember wanting to understand what 'mad' meant and, more importantly, how I could help the cousin or aunt who was experiencing it. These memories have stayed with me and influenced my decision to pursue a career in mental health.
I graduated from Boston University with a B.A. in Psychology and a Minor in Public Health, and from Columbia University with an M.S. in Social Work. Throughout my academic career, my curriculum focused on understanding the impact of social, cultural, political, and economic conditions on an individual’s overall well-being. In my professional career, I have had the opportunity to gain experience providing individual, group, family, and couples therapy. I have served individuals in various settings, including an inpatient unit, an outpatient clinic, a residential treatment center, a school-based setting, and within the shelter system. I have collaborated with interdisciplinary teams to deliver effective treatment, crisis intervention, case management, and discharge planning services to clients and their families.
I wholeheartedly enjoy creating a space of empathy and acceptance to support individuals on their healing journey. I know firsthand how therapy can have a significant impact, allowing for positive change. Therapy has been meaningful in helping me navigate motherhood—raising my two dynamic girls and embracing my new role as a wife with children. Moreover, I have found a new love, appreciation, and dedication to intentionally prioritize my needs and desires.
Congratulations on considering therapy. I welcome you to allow me to support you on your journey to cope, grow, and heal. I hope to hear from you!
